The Annual Florida Indian River Grove Fruit Sale has begun. All band, color guard, and show choir members are invited to participate. To purchase fruit you can either see a member of one of these groups or click the link to order online. If you purchase online, you will be able to select which student you would like to receive credit for the sale. Please note that 10lb bags and mixed fruit boxes are not available online. Banneker Game

The AHS Varsity Football Game vs. Banneker HS on Friday, October 31 has been changed to a HOME game. As usual, kickoff will be at 7:30 PM.

Show Choir Rehearsals

In order to better prepare for our Fall Musical, the Show Choir is scheduled to rehearse at the following times:

Tuesday, October 21: 4-6
Friday, October 24: 4-6
Saturday, October 25: Dress Rehearsal
Tuesday, October 28: 4-6

Please plan to attend all of these rehearsals!

2008 Golden River Marching Festival
Tallapoosa, GA
October 18, 2008

1. Band and Guard report to band room – 8:30 AM
2. Depart – 9:00 AM
3. Arrive – 10:00 AM
4. Warm-up – 11:20 AM
5. Performance – 12:20 PM
6. Festival Awards – 1:00 PM
7. JSU Performance – 10:45 PM
8. Bus returns to AHS approx – 12:30 AM - 1:00 AM

Please note: If there is enough interest there may be a bus available to bring students back early. Students will have the opportunity to sign up to come home early during the week. Students should sign-up no later than Friday morning if they intend to return early. If enough students sign-up the early bus will arrive back at Alexander at approximately 3:30PM.

What to bring:

1. Items needed for performance
2. Sun Screen
3. Change of clothes
4. Warm clothing (preferably layers: the afternoon is supposed to be warm, and the evening is supposed to be cool)
5. Money for food, pictures, etc. Concessions will be available at the festival. We will be eating lunch and dinner at the festival.

Directions to Golden River Festival:

I-20 W to Exit 11 (US Hwy 27 North)
Go to the traffic light at Hwy 120, turn left on Hwy 120 West
Travel through 1 traffic light
Haralson Co. High will be on the left (after you pass the middle school) about six miles from the last traffic light.

Cheesecake Delivery

Cheesecakes will be delivered on Thursday, October 2. Please make sure that they are picked up after school/rehearsal. They must be refrigerated/frozen.

Congratulations to the band and guard members for getting all superior ratings at the Yellow Jacket Classic! In addition to that, they are the first group at AHS to receive the Ronnie White Memorial Showmanship Award for most entertaining performance in the festival portion of the day. Congratulations and keep working to be the best that you can!!!

Performing Arts Booster Club

The first Performing Arts Booster Club (PABC) meeting will be Saturday, September 6 at 9:30 a.m. in the Chorus Room. Refreshments will be provided. Any parent that has a student involved with Show Choir, Chorus, or Spring Musical is encouraged to attend and join this wonderful organization that does so much to help the students at AHS.

Drum Corps Rocks the South @ AHS

On Saturday, August 16th the Atlanta CorpsVets will play host to six of DCA's finest Drum and Bugle Corps with the 6th annual Drum Corps Rocks the South competition at Alexander High School in Douglasville, Georgia. Representing the DCA-South region and performing at this show will be Atlanta CorpsVets (Atlanta, Ga), Alliance (Atlanta, Ga), Austin Stars (Austin, Tx), The Gulf Coast Sound (Houston, Tx), Music City Legend (Nashville, Tn), Shenandoah Sound (Manassas, Va), and The Sun Devils (Kissimmee, Fl). Tickets to the show are available on the corps web site (www.corpsvets.org) for $8.00 in advance or $12.00 the day of the show. In addition, the Atlanta CorpsVets are offering a VIP Package for $12.50 per person and a child (under 10) VIP package for $10.50 per person. Each VIP package will consist of premium seating near the 50 yard line, a small gift, and a Friends and Family cookout sponsored by the CorpsVets.

This is a great chance to enjoy great food, great company, and support the Atlanta CorpsVets. The CorpsVets VIP package must be purchased by Aug 12th online by clicking the following link: VIP PackageCome out August 16th to Alexander High School and support your local drum and bugle corps. Band Parent Reception

There will be a welcome back reception for new and returning band parents held on Thursday, August 14, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. in the band room. Items that will be discussed include joining the AHS Band Boosters, signing up to help in the concession stand at home football games, signing up to be a chaperone on the buses to away football games/competitions, purchase of your band booster t-shirts, and discussion of much needed fund raisers. We ask that you please show your support of our band members and Alexander High School by becoming involved in our Band Booster program. Refreshments will be provided.

Show Choir Auditions

Auditions for the Alexander Show Choir will be held on Saturday, August 23. The Show Choir will be performing at the Fall Concert on October 30th and at Disney World during Spring Break. For audition information please see Ms. Killian or Mr. Daniel.
